Eva Baumann is a dancer, movement researcher, choreographer and teacher with an eclectic education - she studied contemporary/classical dance at the University of Performing Arts in Frankfurt/Main, Germany. At the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten/ Codarts in Rotterdam she studied choreography. Her artistic career as a dancer and choreographer began 2006 in the Netherlands where she realised her first productions, co-produced and supported by Korzo theatre Den Hague and Dansateliers Rotterdam.
In the Netherlands she danced with choreographers such as Anouk van Dijk, Sjoerd Vreugdenhil, Paul Selwyn Norton, Cora Bos-Kroese (C-Scope) and the Magpie Music Dance Company, Amsterdam. In Germany she worked a.o. with Stuttgart based choreographer Katja Erdmann-Rajski, in Belgium with French Vincent Dunoyer (former dancer with Ultima Vez and Rosas), performing a.o. at the Rencontres Choréographiques de Seine St. Denis in Paris. Furthermore Eva Baumann worked with Scottish choreographer Colette Sadler throughout Europe (a.o. Impuls Tanz Vienna, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Tanz im August Berlin, Tanznacht Berlin).
Since 2012 she is focussing on her own choreographic work in collaboration with other artists from the field of music, video, photography, light art, set/costume design and visual art/installation. Since 2020 she also dives deeper into the work with the medium film and in interplay with puppetry. Her work has been shown across the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Lithuania, Ireland and Germany and she has been invited to several festivals/venues and art spaces.
In 2003 she was awarded a production grant by the Dutch Prins Bernhard Culutuurfonds for young upcoming theatre makers - still being a student . 2008 she was a recipient of a scholarship by the Arts Foundation of the German District Baden- Württemberg, Stuttgart (Kunststiftung Baden-Württemberg) to encourage her artistic development. Her solo solitaire was nominated for the Stuttgart Tanz/Theaterpreis 2013 as one of the best five dance performances of Baden-Württemberg of the season 2012. Since 2012 she received several public fundings and support to realise her own projects. In 2015 she was artist-in-residence at the Bauhaus in Dessau.
Between 2016 and 2019 her work dealt with unknown and forgotten female artists that formed the base of her choreographic trilogy entitled herstory. 2020/2021 she created the solo work SCHATTENKIND that examines family violence carried out by mothers. The topic of trauma and violence remains one of the artistic focus in the upcoming years reaching out to different audiences.
In July 2022 she established the Cie. ZEIT/GEIST as an umbrella for future works.
Since 2009 she teaches ballet, contemporary dance and improvisation.
In 2018 she started an education as somatic yoga teacher.
2021 she was a guest teacher at the Hochschule für Schauspiel Ernst Busch - department of contemporary puppetry - in Berlin.
She lives and works in Stuttgart and Berlin.
