Pas de Deux der Selbstbewußtseine
an installational dance performance in the frame of the project HegelMachine
Anyone who attempts to understand Hegel's philosophy and reads his writings, especially the two major works Phenomenology of the Spirit and Science of Logic, in the hope of understanding something of it, will inevitably fail. In the attempt to express his thoughts, Hegel himself failed linguistically. One could kindly say that he did not shrink from the danger of driving language as far away from vividness as possible. The installational dance performance Pas de Deux der Selbstbewußtseine (Pas de Deux of the Self-Consciousnesses) deals with how perception becomes consciousness, reflection on it becomes thinking and the reflection of the self in the other becomes self-consciousness. The work was conceived as a continuous 30-minute loop.
